Robert Michael Menes Sr., known affectionately as “Cowboy Bob” or “Big Bob,” 81, of Davenport, Iowa, was born on Flag Day and passed away on Major League Baseball's opening day, Thursday, March 26, 2026, at the Kahl Home in memory care.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Davenport Memorial Park. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.rungemortuay.com
Born on June 14, 1944, in Davenport, Iowa, Robert graduated from Davenport High School in 1962. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1968 and continued his service in the National Guard from 1968 to 1974. He was also a dedicated member of the honor guard, providing respectful final tributes at the funerals of fellow veterans and community members.
Robert spent his career as a talented designer. He began at John Deere and later worked at HQ Amcom and the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1993 after many years of dedicated service.
A lifelong baseball enthusiast, Robert played in local leagues and cherished the game as both a player and a fan. He loved to dance and was always ready to get out on the dance floor, especially to his favorite oldies and country music. Above all, Robert was a devoted father who raised his two children with unwavering dedication and love.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Rose (Hamann) Menes; his son, Bobby Menes; and his siblings, Bill Menes, Rose Dunbar, Lillie Lampe, and Russell Menes.
Robert is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Spencer) Zimmerman.
