Willy was born January 20, 1957 in Davenport, the son of Robert Lee and Lola Jean (Thorpe) Wold. He was raised in the Quad City area where he enjoyed spending time with his family and many close friends. From an early age, it was apparent that his talents would be vast and extraordinary. Willy was known as the man who could accomplish anything and would share his heart of gold. He was outspoken and would do anything for anyone without asking for anything in return. He enjoyed a great challenge with strong determination. He cherished above all, his children, Bub and Cis and his beloved wife, Cameron.
Willy was an incredible welder and worked for thirty years at John Deere where he served as a union steward and on the volunteer fire department. He retired in 2006
He was united in marriage to Cameron Rathbun on April 6, 1978 in Davenport. Willy had a way of walking into a room, making everyone feel his presence with his larger than life personality and sense of humor. The sound of his laughter and the brightness of his smile would make any dark room come to life. Those who truly knew Willy realized how big of an impact he had made on their lives. His hobbies included: being outdoors; hunting; fishing; traveling, especially to South Carolina to visit his cousin June and her family and making great memories with his entire family. He found peace simply by sitting on his porch or out in his shop where he loved to share stories and relax with his adoring family, friends and his Vizsla, Abby.
Willy was the rock of the family, holding everything together and always thinking about others before himself. What brought him the most joy was when he was able to plan a gathering, bringing all of his family close together to reminisce about the “good times.” His life was truly an amazing adventure and he enjoyed nothing more than to share the stories of his life to others or even to a complete stranger. The legacy of Willy’s life journey will forever live in those whose lives he had touched.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Cameron; son, Andrew, “Bub” Wold; daughter, Cameron “Cis” Wold, father, Robert Lee Wold; sisters: Robin “Bobalouie” (Randy) Thune and their children, Robby & Sarah Nelson and Michael and Ryan Thune; Pam (Bert) Willis and their children, Bobby, Jeanie and Jamie. His mother, Lola, uncle, Thomas Thorpe and his beloved dogs, Ginger 1 and Ginger 2 preceded him in death.
