Ron Bellomy has joined his ancestors and friends in Heaven. He passed this life on March 3, 2016 after leaving a mark on this world that few have, and will be missed by many. A celebration of his life will be held at the Runge Mortuary at 1pm on Saturday, March 12, 2016. A fellowship gathering will be held after the service at Ron’s house in Davenport from 4 to 8 pm. Ron was born on June 7, 1941 to Pearl Farameli Nash and Howard Nash. He was later adopted by Pearl’s second husband, William Gene Bellomy, and raised by Pearl and Rex Hollister.
Always proud of his Mom’s Italian heritage, Ron grew up an athlete and avid fisherman, and attended college at St. Ambrose, the University of Iowa and Palomar College in California. He was always ready for a pickup basketball or baseball game well into his adult life. After college Ron opened the business that would make him a fixture in downtown Davenport, Iowa for 42 years, Riverbend Antiques. He started with one room at the foot of Brady Street hill and ended up with half of that block as the third largest solely owned antique store in the country. He retired from it in 2014, with many wonderful memories and experiences. Some of the celebrity customers he remembered most were Ed McMahon, Brooke Shields, Donna Douglas, the Beach Boys, Rosanne Barr and his favorite, Tommy Chong.
In November 1967 he married Candace Richardson. They later divorced but remained friends and business associates in creating Trash Can Annie’s antique clothing store above Riverbend. Candace’s passing in 1993 ended their long partnership. In 1995 he married Lisa Martin and in 1997 they were blessed with their only child Lia Christina.
Ron is survived by his daughter Lia, brother Dick Nash and wife Judy, Eliza, Illinois, sister Shelly Foster and husband Tom, Coal Valley, Illinois as well as ex-wife Lisa, the Hy-Vee Breakfast Club and many friends and relatives in the Quad Cities area. He loved to travel, expecially to Jamaica and Italy and was the bartender in the Bix Biederbeck movie, one of his favorite stories. His zest for life and love of entertaining friends and family will leave a big hole in the many lives he touched. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left for Lia Bellomy’s college fund at the Runge Mortuary. Online condolences may be expressed at www.rungemortuary.com.
