Sharon Kay Arndt, 79, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025 at Clarissa Cook Hospice House surrounded by her family.
Born to Wesley and Rilla Stroud in Seymour, Iowa, on November 12, 1945, Sharon grew up sharing a love of music with her family. Together, they played for local square dances, featuring Sharon soloing on the fiddle. When she wasn’t fiddling, Sharon could often be found reading a book, a hobby she continued throughout her life.
After high school, Sharon attended Scott Community College and earned her LPN license. She set out with a friend all the way to Alaska to work as a nurse for several years before returning to Scott to become an RN. In 1973, Sharon married Richard Arndt of Davenport, creating a family with sons Justin Arndt of Davenport and Elec Arndt of Bettendorf. She worked as a nurse in the QC area throughout her career, and upon her retirement volunteered as a parish nurse, a role she found to be incredibly fulfilling.
In her retirement, Sharon enjoyed needlework such as quilting and crocheting, along with listening to audiobooks. She dreamed of being a librarian. She especially enjoyed the Harry Potter series, and even traveled with her son to Universal Studios where she got stuck on the Harry Potter ride. Perhaps more than anything, Sharon loved spending time with her dog, Brandee, who passed in 2021.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Richard, her sons Justin and Elec, her brother Gary Stroud and sister-in-law Chieko, and her lifelong friend Linda Lytle.
Sharon lived her life to help others, as illustrated by this quote from her favorite book, Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns: “There ain't no feelin' in the world like takin' on somebody wilted and near bout gone, and you do what you can, and then all a-sudden the pore thang starts to put out new growth and git well.” Sharon’s life of service leaves a lasting legacy, as her impact has benefited the lives of so many. Her time was spent lifting others’ spirits and well-being in any way she could. Even during her final weeks in the hospital, she filled friends, family and hospital staff with positivity and joy.
Please join her family in celebrating her life at a visitation on Friday, September 5, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Weerts Funeral Home, 3625 Jersey Ridge Rd, Davenport, IA 52807. A funeral service will occur Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Weerts Funeral Home.
Sharon will be laid to rest in Davenport Memorial Park, 1022 East 39th St, Davenport, IA 52807-1704.
