Sidney Ragland

A memorial service will be 11:30 AM, Thursday, October 13, 2011 in The Runge Mortuary Chapel. Final interment will follow at The National Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until service time at the mortuary. Per the family’s wishes cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials may be made to the family. Sidney was born on January 5, 1945 in New York, NY, the son of Charles Ragland and Gladys (Paull) and Irving Vaughn. He was united in marriage to Janie Jones, later married Sandra L. Murphy and was most recently married to Jo Anne Caster on November 23, 1993 in Reno, NV.

Sidney was an Air Force veteran where served as an electrician and maintenance technician at the Dover Delaware Air Force Base. He was employed at ALCOA for 35 years, retiring in 2002 as an Electrical Technician Supervisor. Sidney was a member of the Davenport Eagles Lodge and Bettendorf VFW. He enjoyed playing racquetball, euchre, computer games, pool, and target shooting. He was an excellent chef and liked going out to movies and dinner. Sidney enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include, wife Jo Anne, Sherrard; daughters Monique (David) Ragland-Wilson, Eldorado, TX, Deborah Ragland-Washington, Brooklyn, NY, Tori (Ken) Witt, Eldridge, IA, Erika Ragland-Lee, Brooklyn, NY, and Stephanie (Janson) Bender, Sherrard, IL; sons Darrin Ragland, High Point, NC, Craig Ragland, Odenton, MD, and Lucas (Brooke) Radech, Davenport, IA; 20 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister Charlotte (Juan) Giscombe, Mattawan, MI, mother Gladys Vaughn, Portage, MI.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Charles, stepfather Pops, one sister, and granddaughter Tanae.
