Susan E. Greenwalt, 78, of Davenport, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at Genesis East Medical Center. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 2pm at Weerts Funeral Home; visitation will take place before the service starting at 1pm. Memorials in Susan’s name may be made to Disability Assistance Dogs.
Susie was born on May 17, 1945 in Peoria, Illinois to Ralph and Joyce McBride. Following high school she was united in marriage to Herschel John Greenwalt on November 28, 1964. Susie worked many jobs throughout her life but her proudest job was being a mother. Susie was a talented word-smith and wrote articles for both the Quad City Times Senior Voice and the Senior Voice Newsletter. She did volunteer work for the Davenport Civil Rights Committee along with many other organizations in the community. Susie was the unofficial coordinator for activities at Luther Crest Assisted Living. While her kids were growing up, she was Cub Scout leader, a Jayceette, Dad's Club Coach, amongst other numerous activities. Susie was also a member of the Walcott Sorority Sisters.
Those left to honor her memory are her children Colleen Nielsen, Rebecca (Corey) Cook, J.D. (Shelley) Greenwalt, Lucas (Michelle) Greenwalt, Jacob Greenwalt, and Jared (Peggy) Greenwalt; grandchildren Merrill, Julia (Daniel), Wade, Anthony (Sarah), Emily (Justin), Dakota, Austin, Cameron, Tanner(Marilyn), Kane, Keaton, Logan, Vivian, Henry, Justin, Kyle, and Kurt; great-grandchildren Clara and Marin Garratano and Zane Smith; sister Sharon McBride; numerous nieces and nephews; and her current service dog Thor.
She was preceded in death by her husband John, sister Bettye Earp, her parents Ralph and Joyce, and her service dog Gumbo.
