

Funeral services for Thomas Verdon, 56, of Davenport, will be 11:00 am on Saturday at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Burial will follow at Oakdale Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends on Friday, March 22nd from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the mortuary. Mr. Verdon passed away on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at his home in Davenport.Thomas Daniel Verdon was born on March 4, 1957 in Moline, IL, the son of Willard and Janet (Wilson) Verdon. He married Sandy Briggs on September 4, 1982 in Fayette, IA. He worked for IA/IL Gas & Electric Company (currently MidAmerican Energy) for 36 years. He was proud of his job and through work he made many lifelong friends. Tom was a great son and brother to more than his immediate family. He was always ready to lend a hand to those in need. Tom had many interests including Sudoku, crossword, jigsaw puzzles, card games, deer hunting, and hand carving. His passion was chainsaw carving. He was a carver for 12 years and belonged to the “Saw it on the Bend” chainsaw carving craftsmen for the past 5 years. He participated and helped organize the “Carving for Cancer Rendezvous” for 8 years. Tom enjoyed Jimmy Buffet and other tropical rock music. He was a member of the QC Parrotheads and enjoyed many “social” hours with them. Tom donated many chainsaws carvings to the charities supported by the Parrotheads that helped raise thousands of dollars. He was always ready to donate his chainsaw carvings to anyone who called him for other fundraisers.The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to family, friends, and hospice for all of their love, support, prayers, and thoughts during this most difficult time of our lives.Survivors include his wife: Sandy, of Davenport, daughters: Carmen Verdon of Davenport, Chelsea (Greg) Brown of Macomb, MI; his mother: Janet Verdon of Davenport; sisters: Tammy Verdon of College Park, MD, Beth Verdon of Davenport, Patty (Eric) Thune of Davenport; brothers: Tim (Julie) Verdon of Altoona, IA, Joel Verdon of Portland, OR, Tony (Tim) Verdon of Bettendorf. He was preceded in death by his father: W. Daniel Verdon; maternal grandparents: Orville and Madeline Wilson; paternal grandparents: Joseph and Florence Verdon; and his father and mother-in-law: Paul and H.
