
DAVENPORT — Virginia Collins,78, of Davenport, died Monday, December 1, 2008, at her home in South Bend, Indiana.A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary in Davenport. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Sunnybrook Drive, South Bend, IN 46616.Virginia was born on August 23, 1930, in Rock Island, to James and Virginia Zanutto. She attended St Ambrose College, and then married William Collins on February 7, 1953. She was a vital member of the community, working at Tri-City Mantle and Tile, Peterson Harned Von Maur, and then as the Director of Employee Placement for Professional Medical Coverage. She later served as Office Manager for Windmill Pointe Assisted Living Facility in Coralville, Iowa. She also devoted years of volunteer work to the local chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society, the “Rummage Closet” of the Scott County Mental Health Association, the Mercy Hospital Auxiliary, and the Sons of Italy. She was especially proud of her work in the Washington School Parent-Teacher-Association, serving as its President and Vice President for a number of years. When she and her husband retired in 1995, they moved to South Bend so they could enjoy their beloved granddaughters.She is survived by her husband, William; her brother, James, and his partner, Ann Ovodow; her son, James; her daughter-in-law, Stephanie; and her granddaughters, Ava, Nell, Sophia, and Gabriela.
