

Funeral services for Wayland T. Havig, 78, of Davenport will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2011 at Risen Christ Lutheran Church, Davenport. The family will greet friends from 4:00-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening at Cunnick-Collins Mortuary, Davenport. Interment will be at Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery in Rock Island, IL. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #26. Mr. Havig went to be with his Lord on Sunday, October 2, 2011 at his home with his family by his side. Wayland Thayer Havig was born in Osage, IA on July 6, 1933, the son of Martin and Olive (Woodiwiss) Havig. He was the youngest of six children. Wayland served in the United States Navy from December 1950 to May 1954. On June 26, 1955, he married Lois Maurine Halverson. She preceded him in death in June of 2001. Wayland was employed as a carpenter and lumberyard worker in Mason City, IA prior to moving to Davenport in January of 1966. He worked at Alcoa Aluminum Co. before becoming employed at Caterpillar Tractor Company in November of 1967. He retired from Caterpillar on March 1, 1988. On January 5, 2002, Wayland married Anita Bennett. Wayland was a member of Risen Christ Lutheran Church, American Legion in Osage, IA, the Naval Air Museum in Pensacola, FL, the U.S. Naval Institute, and the ILLOWA Good Sam RV Club. He also served as treasurer of the U.S.S. Bataan CVL-29/LHD5 Naval Reunion Association. He is survived by his Wife: Anita Havig; a Daughter: Laurie Loerzel of Davenport; a Son: Russell Havig of Davenport; two Step-sons: Brad (Tammy) Buck of Moline, IL, Thomas (Debra) Bennett of East Moline, IL; a Sister: Marguerite Tosel of Mason City, IA 5 Grandchildren: Joseph Loerzel, Jonathan Loerzel, Sara Loerzel, Jessica Havig, Michael Havig; 4 Step-Grandsons: Adam Ruiz, Matthew Ruiz, Darrin Bennett, Philip Bennett; and 7 Great-Grandchildren. In addition to his parents and first wife, Lois, he was preceded in death by a brother: Marlin Havig; and 3 sisters: Allene Ludgate, Doris Denning, and Gloria Bucknell. Memorials may be directed to Risen Christ Lutheran Church, St. Jude Children's Hospital, or to Faith Ministries in Douglas, AZ.
