

William A. “Bill” Popp, 95, of Bettendorf, died on Saturday, November 22, 2014 at the Bettendorf Health Care Center following a brief illness. There will be no visitation at this time and a private memorial service with military honors will be held at a later date with inurnment at the Rock Island National Cemetery. Cunnick-Collins Mortuary and Cremation Service is assisting the family with arrangements. William Arthur Popp was born on May 1, 1919 in Davenport, IA, the son of Arthur and Letty (Newark) Popp. He married Betty I. McCulley on October 5, 1940 in Wapello, Iowa. In December of 1941 he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp attaining the rank of 2nd Lieutenant and attending classes at the University of Chattanooga, TN. After fulfilling his military obligations, he came home to Davenport and began work at the former Schierbrock Motors in Davenport as a salesman eventually to end up at Lujacks retiring in 1981. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, a Mason, and an accomplished wood carver. Surviving members of the family include – his Wife of 74 Years, Betty; a Daughter: Jackie (Larry) Kendall of Bettendorf; 2 Brothers: Arthur "Art" Popp of LeClaire, IA, and Richard “Dick” (Peggy) of Chewelah, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters Jane and Helenjean, and 2 Brothers, Kenneth and Donald. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, The Scott County Humane Society, or a Favorite Charity.
