John grew up in Ottumwa, where he developed a love for the outdoors and enjoyed spending time at the local skating rink. He proudly served in the National Guard and, in July of 1964, married Sharon Wilkins. Together they raised three children and, in 1973, made their home in Davenport, Iowa. After the passing of his wife Sharon on December 11, 1995, John worked hard to fill the massive space her absence left, leaning on his family and finding joy in the time they shared.
John worked hard to support his family and cherished the time he spent with them. He loved hosting pool parties for his children and grandchildren, taking family vacations, and was especially proud to fulfill a lifelong dream of traveling to the United Kingdom and Ireland.
A devoted grandfather, John delighted in sharing his hobbies with his six grandchildren, always eager to spoil them with his time and attention. He enjoyed biking, chess, drawing, rollerblading, and walking his dog, Molly.
John’s legacy is one of quick wit, joy, and appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. He will be deeply missed by his three children, as well as by his family and friends.
Visitation for John will be held on Sunday, October 5th, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Weerts Funeral Home, located at 3625 Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport.
A private graveside ceremony will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery on Monday, October 6th.
John is survived by his three children: Robert (Heidi) Tee of Eldridge, Donald (Leigh) Tee of Maysville, and Lisa (Mark) Freel of Solon; as well as six grandchildren: Jack, Emma, Daniel, Nick, Katelyn, and Brandon. He is also remembered by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sharon, his parents John and Hazel, and his sister Doris Mullins.
Memorial contributions can be made to King’s Harvest Pet Rescue No Kill Shelter in honor of John’s love for dogs.
