Memorial services for Zola J. Miller, 86, of Davenport will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the Cunnick-Collins Mortuary chapel in Davenport. The family will greet friends on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the mortuary. Per her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded. Inurnment will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, IL. Mrs. Miller left her earthly life Monday, September 14, 2015 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf to join her beloved husband Melvin in heaven to dance among the clouds. Zola Joan Wolfe was born on December 12, 1928 in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Verne and Rosetta (Williamson) Wolfe. On June 6, 1947, she married Melvin R. Miller in Davenport. He preceded her in death in 2010. Mrs. Miller was an accomplished beautician, operating a salon out of her home. For a period of time, she also worked as a hairdresser at Ridgecrest Village and then as a bookkeeper at the Rock Island Arsenal Commissary. She was a member of the 600 Bowling Club, Elks Club, and Moose Club. Her greatest joy was always being there to lend a helping hand to her children and enjoying her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She accepted adult responsibilities at a young age and the strength and independence she gained stayed with her throughout her life. She was blessed the last five years to have some very special individuals to fill the loss of her life’s love. The daily phone calls “just to talk”, weekly visits, chauffeuring her on errands, and all the crazy activities that made her smile and laugh-especially crowning her Trivia Queen. And she loved you all for it. A very special thank you to the angels of the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House for the loving care you gave to Zola as she took her final journey home. She is survived by two Daughters: Connie (James) Dodson of Sun City West, AZ, Jody (Mark) Bailey of Davenport; two Sisters: Pat (John) Frame of Bettendorf, Judy (Larry) Dreyer of Davenport; three Grandchildren: Stacy (Mitchell) Louck of Eldridge, IA, Polly (Brad) Guy of Davenport, Samuel Bailey of Eldridge, IA; 4 Great-Grandchildren: Austin and Alexis Louck, Ava and Lily Guy. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Verne “Butch” (Gerry) Wolfe. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Eye Institute or to the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
