Born on Aug 28, 1922 in Reardan, WA to Pete and Anna Schwartz. Bertha grew up in Reardan and attended school in Reardan graduating from Reardan High school. She attended college in Seattle, WA and also worked for Coast Oyster Company in Seattle, WA. She moved back to Reardan in 1953, and worked at GMAC and later went to work at the Reardan Grain Growers as a bookkeeper where she retired after several years. Bertha is survived by her son Alan Hughes of Puyallup, WA, four grandchildren Brenda Schweikert, Rose Gabel, Anna Short and Marcus Hughes and her 11 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, a brother Henry Schwartz, three sisters Margaret Roberts, Lorraine Safford, Lena Ellis. She enjoyed bowling, fishing, boating, camping and water skiing, and gardening. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 1:00PM at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Reardan, WA with Pastor Steve Gutzman, officiating.
