Clarence Smith, 98, passed away peacefully on December 30, 2023. Clarence was born November 14, 1925, in Oklahoma. When he was 10 years old, he and his parents and siblings moved from Oklahoma during the dust bowl to Tieton, Washington.
As the result of an auto accident as a teenager, he lost hearing in one ear. This disqualified him from serving during World War II, but not his determination to contribute. He worked in the shipyards in the Portland, Oregon area.
He returned to Tieton where he married Ermadyne in 1949. They started working an orchard of apples, pears, peaches, and cherries. During this time, they started their family and had two sons. In 1967, the family moved to Almira, Washington, where Clarence started working at Lincoln Mutual Service #1 as the fuel delivery driver for 28 years.
Both Clarence and Ermadyne were very active in the community, whether through the school, bowling, or the Community Church. After their retirements, they enjoyed traveling in their motor home all over the "western US, this side of the Mississippi". Ermadyne passed away in 2013, but Clarence continued living in the family home until his recent fall took him to the hospital.
Clarence is survived by his two sons, Roger and Brad (Kathy Holmes) and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Almira Community Church at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Clarence's name to the Almira Volunteer Fire Department who were always there to help.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.stratefuneralhome.com for the Smith family. Strate Funeral Home, Davenport is caring for the family.
