Pastor Duane R. Pettipiece

Duane passed away peacefully on March 12, 2025 at his home. Duane was born on December 9, 1932, in Placerville, CA to Clarence and Vivian Pettipiece. After high school he joined the US Air Force and served from 1952-1956. He married Carrol Giesbrecht on June 2, 1957 in Wichita, KS and they had four children. Duane got saved while in the Air Force and was called to preach so he attended Baptist Bible College. From 1968 until 1972 he was the Pastor of Evangel Baptist Church in Spokane, WA and then a co-pastor at Inland Empire Baptist Temple. In 1975 he moved with his family to Las Vegas, NV and was the pastor of Gateway Baptist Church. In 1996 he felt led to return to Spokane, WA where he started Bible Baptist Church in the Spokane Valley. He served as the pastor there until retiring in 2013. He served as Pastor Emeritus at the church until his death. Sharing God’s word with others and supporting missionaries was his life’s work, which he did for over 65 years. His goal was to tell others about God’s saving grace. Duane is survived by his wife of 67 years Carrol, three children Sharon (Lewis) Boggs, Mark (Teri) Pettipiece and Diane (Bill) Miller along with 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He also has two sisters Juanita Voorhees and Mary Jane (Tom) Augustine and numerous nieces and nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by an infant son David, three brothers and one sister. Duane will lie in state at the Thornhill Valley Funeral Home, 1400 S. Pines, Spokane Valley, WA on Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 12:00 PM-4:00 PM. A committal service will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at 10:30 AM at the WA State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, WA followed by a Celebration of Life Memorial services at 2:00 PM (PST) at Bible Baptist Church, located at 11111 16th Ave., Spokane Valley, WA. The memorial service will be live streamed on YouTube at BibleBaptistChurchSV.
