Joyce Ann Telecky, a beloved wife, mother, and pillar of the local farming community, passed away in Davenport, Washington on March 2, 2026. She was 96 years old.
Born September 24, 1929, to Ralph and Nona Elliott, she grew up as the youngest child on a farm. Her childhood taught her much about the importance of hard work, family, and cultivated a fierce spirit of independence that never left her.
Joyce graduated from Edwall High School in 1947 and then followed in her mother’s footsteps by enrolling at Eastern Washington University, where she majored in education. In 1951, she celebrated two great milestones: graduating from college and marrying the love of her life, Cecil Telecky. Shortly after their wedding, the young couple moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, where Cecil served with the Air Force for the next two years.
Returning home to Edwall, Washington, Joyce and Cecil settled into life on the family farm, where they raised their two children, Steve and Joan, and continued farming for the rest of their lives. Joyce embraced the familiar rhythms of farm life while also making her mark far beyond it.
Bowling was a shared joy for Joyce and Cecil, who spent many happy hours at the lanes with their close friends. Together they traveled to compete in tournaments across the country, including Nationals, and Joyce’s skill earned her a place in the Spokane 600 Club. She could frequently be found reading, watching a Zags basketball game, and volunteering in her community. She was an active and devoted member for more than 50 years in the Bluestem Grange, the Order of Eastern Star, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Cecil; and her older sister, Kaye (Claude) Millard. She is survived by her children, Steve (Roberta) Telecky and Joan (Dennis) Hollis; four grandchildren, Travis Telecky, Ashley Smith, Colleen Kienbaum, and Diane Canali; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Chapel of Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Washington.
