Louis Wayne Frederick - Age 85

Louis Wayne Frederick passed away peacefully at his home on May 10th, 2020, after a short bout with cancer, surrounded by his family. Wayne was born on June 17, 1934, in Odessa, WA. He attended Odessa High School, then joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. He served most of his service time on the USS Kitty Hawk along with other various carriers. Wayne was a Vietnam war veteran. In 1956, he married the love of his life, Violet Mae Skaggs. After serving 20 years in the U.S. Navy, Wayne returned to Odessa with his family and began working for the Trading Company. Shortly thereafter he began his second career with the Washington State Highway Department. Wayne was the lead technician for 20 years. He retired in June 30th, 1994. During his time working for the State Highway Department, he received a Life Saving Award issued from The State of Washington for pulling a car accident victim from his submerged car at Lamona, WA. Additionally, he was also recognized as the Washington State Department of Transportation Employee of the Year for 1993. Wayne was an active member of the Odessa community. He was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars and a life member of the American Legion, Post 7395. As a member of the Odessa float committee, Wayne provided his float building expertise for annual parades. He was an avid hunter and loved fishing. Many family and friends have fond memories of him at his favorite fishing hole, sitting on the barge at Deer Lake. You could also find him tinkering in his garage, creating numerous toys, go-carts, mini-bikes and stilts for his children and grandchildren. Wayne was born to both parents Louis Ludwig and Alma Frederick. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vi Frederick; his daughter Debra Frederick Praetorius; his father Louis Frederick, his mother Alma Spurling; his two brothers Leland and Ronald Frederick; sister Shirley Worley. He is survived by his children Michael (Sherri) of Odessa, Dennis (Polly) of Ford, David (Brenda) of Spokane and Teresa of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Wayne is survived by 11 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad will be remembered for his kindness to others. His willingness to always make time for those in need of help. He lived a simple positive life, one that I am sure many would have liked to have. A memorial service will be at a later date and time. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.strate-funeral.com for the Frederick family.

My son asked about his Kittyhawk hat because he likes history. And he was very kind to tell him stories about his service. He will be truly missed.
