Adelaide Leola (Hungerford) Pruett went to heaven on February 3, 2026, after six months of fighting cancer. Addie was born in Mesa, Arizona on August 9, 1947, and lived at various U.S. military bases with her family before settling in Mesa where she graduated high school. She attended Northern Arizona University at Flagstaff where she studied home economics and fashion design.
Addie married John Edmond Pruett on August 18, 1969. During their fifty-five-year marriage, Addie devoted her life to assisting John, a Southern Baptist preacher, serve in different churches, most notably for twenty-two years at Main Street Baptist Church in Stigler, Oklahoma. They were quite a team. If you didn’t like Addie, something was wrong with you. Indeed, many people remarked over the years to her daughters, “Your mom is an angel.” Behind her sweet demeanor, however, she could bring the muscle, aka, “the look,” if you stepped out of line, and was the backbone of the family. She embodied unconditional love.
Beside her devotion to her husband and dedication to serving God, Addie loved her family above all. She was the easiest person to please, and nothing made her happier than being in the presence of her children, grandchildren, and sons-in-law. She loved clothes and fashion and never left the house without her red lipstick. A talented seamstress, she sewed her daughter’s dresses for all special occasions, and later clothes for her granddaughters’ American Girl dolls. Although she loved to eat good food and could bake a delicious tart cherry or apple pie, she admitted that she did not like to cook but would have been offended if anyone ever told her she was not the best chef.
Addie is preceded in death by John and her parents, Paul Chester Hungerford and Alta Hunt Hungerford. She is survived by her daughters, Marisa Pruett Elmore and son-in-law Mark Elmore of Dallas, Texas; Kimberly Pruett Sundaram and son-in-law Dr. Shankar Sundaram of Oakwood, Ohio; her sister, Elaine Lynch; her brother Bert Hungerford; grandchildren Elliott and Stella Elmore, and Krisha, S.J., and Leo Sundaram; and many nieces and nephews. The family will hold a memorial service in Oakwood, Ohio, on March 21, 2026.
