Amanda Mae Bernice Thomas

THOMAS, Amanda Mae, age 89, of Dayton, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2013. Amanda was born November 21, 1923 in Dayton. The daughter of the late Clyde Joseph & Anna Dorothy (nee Bernice) Griffin; and her 8 siblings: Joe, Dorothy, Mary, George, Katherine, Art, Clyde & Ted. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Lloyd G. “Jess” Thomas in December 2005. Amanda is survived by her children: Robert of Kettering, Roger (Jan) of Oregon, Michael of Arizona, and Linda of Dayton; Many nieces, nephews and their families; 5 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; our good family friend, Bev from Brookville; and her very special friend and hairdresser “Susie”, who on many occasions went above and beyond to see that she got her hair done every week; or as Dad would say: “She went to ‘get her head put on straight.’” What a great guy he was, she missed him dearly! She was an avid housekeeper, she enjoyed making and taking green beans and taters to family get-togethers. And was most especially known for her “Cinnamon Jumbo Cookies”. She even received a sweatshirt on Christmas one year that said: ‘Aunt Amanda’s Cookies’, she wore it proudly. She was also known as ‘Mashed Potato Grandma’ by some of the grandkids. She got a kick out of that. She enjoyed her shows, some of which were, ‘Lawrence Welk’, ‘Wheel of Fortune’, and ‘The Young and the Restless’. She loved doing Hidden Treasures and Large Print Word Search & Card games like Solitaire, Rummy, Kings Corners & Skoot. She loved ‘em all. Funeral services will take place at TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME- Belmont Chapel, on Wednesday, May 29, 2013, at 10am with Pastor Steve Kimpel officiating. The family will receive friends and family from 6 until 8pm on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-Belmont Chapel, 648 Watervliet at Fauver. Burial will follow services at Woodland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Amanda’s memory to the Hospice of Dayton as well as Butler and Warren County, 324 Wilmington Ave, Dayton, Ohio 45420.
