Claude B. Akers, age 96, of Beavercreek, Ohio passed away on Friday, August 29, 2025. He was born October 17, 1928 in Fort Blackmore, Scott County, Virginia to the late Lloyd and Mary Akers.
On July 11, 1952 Claude married Ruby M. Neeley in Church Hill, Tennessee and they began their life together.
After service in the U.S. Army (1950 – 1952), Claude’s career spanned many decades beginning in Tennessee at the Kingsport Press as an Electrotype Platemaker. An opportunity in 1965 moved the family to Dayton, Ohio where he worked at McCall’s (Magazine) Corporation and, eventually, General Motors until his retirement.
Claude was a longtime member of Faith Baptist Church where he, for many years, faithfully served as Treasurer, church custodian, and wherever needed. He loved the Lord and shared his faith in many ways.
Those who knew Claude knew his great love for his wife and family. Time with them was precious to him. It was also easy to recognize his passion for all things related to nature and sports… whether it was growing food, coaching Little League, flower gardening, watching games on TV, feeding birds and squirrels, maintaining the baseball diamonds, or walking across the fields into the woods, he was totally involved!
And, of course, THERE WERE THE BEES!!!!!!
Claude was preceded in death by his only brother, Elza Akers, and four sisters, Evelyn Baker, Ina Bea Begley, Jean Tipton, and Pauline Begley.
He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Ruby Akers; children, Cathy Sewell and Rick Akers; grandchildren; Todd Hignite, Tytus Hignite, Alexis Reed, and Olivia Davis; great grandchildren, Mason Hignite, Ella Hignite, Amelia Hignite, Evelyn Davis, Vincent Davis, and Sylvia Davis.
