Bob lived on the Ohio River in Chesapeake, Ohio. Their house was the local grocery store in the front and they lived in the back. When Bob was young, they moved to Michigan. Bob's dad worked for Buick and had an accident at work that caused him to lose a leg. While Bob's Dad was in the hospital recovering from amputation, Bob was home alone with his mom when she had a stroke and died. Bob was 12. Bob’s father remarried and Bob moved back to Chesapeake Ohio to live with his Aunt Doe and Uncle Jack Keeney until graduating from Chesapeake High School in 1959. Bob attended Appalachian Bible Institute for 2 years. Then moved to Royal Oak Michigan and worked in the Parts Department for Falvey Auto. He met his future wife Sandra (Sandy) Smith Comstock while attending Northwood Baptist church where Bob and Sandy married on June 22, 1963. When they were married 4 years Bob joined the Air Force to avoid being drafted into the Army. Bob’s first duty station after basic training was Richards-Gebauer Air Force Base in Missouri. Bob had 2 assignments in Germany and served a 1-year tour in Vietnam/Thailand. His last duty assignment was Wright Patt AFB in Dayton Ohio. Air Force Awards and Medals Bob received: numerous awards and medals including Meritorious Service Medal, Commendation Medal with Two Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with one Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal with Two Bronze Service Stars. Bob served from 22 Aug 1967 to 30Sep1987. After retiring from the Airforce Bob went to work for Systems Research Lab (SRL) in 1987. SRL was bought out and changed names several times. Bob retired in 2010 from General Dynamics/Computer Science Corp (CSC).
Bob enjoyed playing and watching sports. He played football in High School. After graduation Bob played Basketball and Softball for squadron teams, and church teams until he was in his 60’s. He also coached t-ball and umpired softball.
Growing up Bob spent time with his cousin Eddie watching his Uncle Gene Comstock as a Nascar driver and Bob’s dad as Gene's mechanic. For a number of Years Bob and Sandy went to numerous Nascar races. Before and after the race they helped Bob’s cousin Eddie and Sharon Comstock sell Nascar souvenirs at numerous race tracks.
Men from Northwood Baptist Church came to visit Bob when his mom died and Bob accepted Jesus at the age of 12. Bob was ordained as a Deacon while stationed in Germany at Immanuel Baptist Church. For years Bob served as a Deacon in Germany, East Dayton Baptist Church, and The Church at Eastmont. Over the years Bob served as Youth Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Director, Royal Ambassadors Leader, Extended Session Nursery Worker, Head Usher, Greeter. Bob served with Ohio Baptist Builders for hurricane relief, Bob was very social, liked to joke around and spoke to everyone that crossed his path. Bob is well known for telling everyone “Jesus Loves You and so do I”.
Bob’s spiritual gift was talking to people. He once chastised some teenagers for throwing rocks at a fountain in the pond behind his house. Two weeks later one of the teens walked past the house and Bob told him he would pay him to throw rocks from his yard in the pond (just not at the fountain). The next Christmas the teen brought Bob a tray of cookies and a Santa for his collection continuing for the next several years. Not many people can chastise a teen and then have them bring them gifts for years.
Bob had a servant heart, loved all children and enjoyed taking them to get one of his favorite food ice cream. Bob recently was honored for his military service in pinning service by hospice. American pride celebrating veteran Bob Comstock for his service to America
Bob will be dearly missed by all that knew him. We are sure Bob and Robert are waiting for us at the second tree just inside the pearly gates as the first tree will be too crowded. “Jesus Loves You and so do I”.
