"Mr. Stromberg", as I always knew him, was instrumental in showing myself and others about how to be a man, through his leadership as our Scout Master.  He was purposeful in his teaching of integrity, respectfulness, and godliness.  He has made an impact on many a scout, and his good character will live on through them!











David was a true American hero-HE SERVED HIS COUNTRY WITH PRIDE AND DIGNITY. HE WAS A GREAT LEADER IN THE BOY SCOUT MOVEMENT AND IN HIS CHURCH. HE WAS LOVED BY HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND WILL BE SORELY MISSED. MY WIFE AND FAMILY SEND OUR LOVE OF MY COUSIN AS DOES MY SISTER DOROTHY AND HER FAMILY. WE LOVE YOU ALL DEARLY.

My dearest Anita,
I was planning on attending the viewing and service, but took a bad fall Thursday.  I wanted to express how much Dave will be missed by all of us who were fortunate to know him.  Please know that my heart goes out to you and your family at this time and I pray God will grant you strength and peace through the difficult times ahead.

Dave and I were in the same company at "Canoe U" and both attended St Paul's Lutheran Church, where I met my future wife.  When Linda (Dave always called her The XO) and I became engaged, we would invite Dave to join us at her parents' home on weekends.  I will never forget Dave's introduction to my future father-in-law.  Dad Blair looked at Dave and said something like "It was bad enough when my daughter brought home one Midshipman.  Now I suppose I will have to feed you on weekends too".  Dave was actually speechless; the first and last time that I ever saw him in that condition. He was a sword bearer in our wedding and we got together over the years. Sometimes at reunions and sometimes just visiting.  I remember one specific occasion in Los Angeles.  We attracted a bit of attention at the La Brea Tar Pits.  We were drag racing strollers with our first born daughters as passengers!  Luckily we were not in uniform.  We and our daughters thought it great fun, but a few passersby gave us the "are they nuts?" look.
One thing the military did instill in all of us was that life was  fleeting and should be lived to the fullest.  Dave was a dedicated believer in that philosophy.  I don't ever remember seeing him other than up-beat.  He will be missed.

I am an Eagle Scout today, in part because of Mr. Stromberg. Yes, he would tell us that you ARE an Eagle Scout, not that you WERE one. And yes, even as we've all gotten older, he's still Mr. Stromberg.  Thank you for investing your time and yourself in our lives.  We all have many memories from church and especially from Scouting that you were a part of in one way or another.
 
•      Stories.  Lots of stories.
•      The six-sided harmonica at vespers.
•      Knowing when you were singing in the choir at church without having to turn around and look up in the balcony.
•      The station wagon fully packed, with all of your equipment and extras for us in case. including the one campout where we had to borrow your water containers since you were extra prepared and let us use them as we hiked an extra few miles to go get the water.  We never forgot the water containers again. 
•      Orange Tang.
•      Whittling and Knife Safety lessons.
•      The story of the Blue Mist by the campfire.
•      Telling old jokes and singing old songs that few of us understood, but getting us to join in anyway.
•      Staying up late with us watching movies at the Scout lock-in at the churchand then some of us still had to stay awake the following morning since our Sunday School class (led by Mrs. Stromberg) had our part in  the annual Christmas program practice.
•      Hiking from Woodland Trails to get a bowl of ice cream that was THIS BIG for ONE DOLLAR.
 
I am sure that you considered us part of your extended family and that you were proud to watch us grow into strong adults with some of the values that you passed along to us.
 
Thank you also for making the trek to North Carolina along with the Barrs a few years ago for my wedding.   For this and so many things, we may not have thanked you enough then.
 
Again, thank you, Mr. Stromberg.

Dave will be greatly missed by so many youth at Vacation Bible School.  He was quick to laugh, and knew how to keep young boys on-task while making them think it was all THEIR idea.

Dave had a story for every situation, and made friends wherever he went.

Dave made a difference!

Dear David, I thank the Lord for having met you. You played an important role in our family's history, and were always a point of reference in many questions. I learnt a lot from you. We will miss you and think of you all the time. Now you rest in peace with the Lord, whom you loved so much. Bye-bye, until we meet again, hopefully in Heaven. A wonderful Christian leader from whom I learned a great deal. As my scout master and mentor, his encouragement and support helped me prepare for Marine Corps boot camp. I took everything he said with discernment and valued his wisdom and service in the Navy. He leaves behind a loving family which I believe shows the true measure of a God-fearing man.

We are praying for the family.May God comfort and bless them.He was a good man.

"Mr. Stromberg" (as we all knew him from Scouting) made an impact on many youth in developing and instilling a solid foundation for their own character development.  He gave so much of his time and efforts to his scouting days and was always good for an animated story around the campfire or a good hiking song.  As scouts, we were lucky to have him as our leader.  Scouts will remember his engraved leather belts, his graying beard, his calligraphy writing, his hand carved walking sticks, his harmonica music and the aroma of his Russian tea mixed with the smell of the propane stove waking us up in the morning -- and who could ever forget the station wagon!  

Nicknamed "Wally" due to his long guidance talks that he would sometimes give, those talks stuck with us for life and gave us a measure to contemplate, even to this day. He was always very patient with us, even when he had good reason not to be. So few of us ever directly expressed our gratitude, but he left a permanent mark on who we are as men.  As he would always ensure we closed: "Now may the Great Master of all scouts, be with us until we meet again".  

Thank you Mr. Stromberg! ... and thank you Mrs. Stromberg for sharing him with all of us scouts.

I never met David Sr,, but his son David Jr. and his family are dear friends of mine.  David Jr. is a man of honor and integrity - this speaks something of the character of his father.  I know my friend Dave Jr. respected his father greatly.  Condolences to entire Stromberg family.
