

It is with profound sadness that we announce our beloved husband, father, grandpa, and friend, Delmer Lee McQueary, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loved ones at Hospice of Dayton, Dayton, OH on Friday, February 28, 2025 at the age of 89. Delmer will be fondly remembered for his strong work ethic, his integrity, his commitment to his family, and his ability to tell a story. Delmer was born on February 27, 1936, at Grape, KY, the son of Andrew McQueary and Icey May Frye McQueary. He attended Nancy Schools in Nancy, KY. He later went on to attend trade schools to be a woodworker/carpenter. Delmer loved and proudly served his country for 2 years in the United States Army and was honorably discharged on November 14, 1956. He then went on to work as Foreman for the city of Dayton, where he retired in June of 1995 after giving 30 years and earning the nickname, “Storyteller”. When able, Delmer could be found engaged in his favorite hobby…..work. His work can be admired in almost every corner of Dayton, OH. When unable to work, Delmer’s hobbies included talking to anyone who would listen, his favorite topics being politics and memories of the past. He also enjoyed relaxing in his recliner, waiting to see and talk to his favorite neighbor and his youngest great grandson, Braxton.
Delmer is survived by his wife of 58 years, Edna Brummett McQueary; his 3 children, Rhonda Kay Baldwin, Karen Jean McQueary, and David Lee McQueary; his 6 grandchildren, Rebecca Barrett Fox, Sarah Barrett Ross, Matthew Barrett, Lily Mai-Belle Wade, Harley Brieann Wade, and Dalton Lane McQueary; his 8 great grandchildren, August Barrett Fox, Mae Hazel Barrett Fox, Otha Del Barrett Fox, Saffron Grace Barrett Ross, Ruby Daniel Barrett Ross, Charlotte Lyne Barrett, Eliza Kay Barrett and Braxton Reign Lee Blanton. Delmer is survived by 1 sister, Laura Mae Foster and several nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Tobias Funeral Home, 648 Watervliet Ave, Dayton, OH 45420.
A second visitation for Delmer McQueary will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home, 1046 West Hwy 80, Somerset, KY 42503. His funeral service will follow on Saturday, March 8th at 12:00 pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Bro. Gary Clark officiating. Burial will be at the Morrows Chapel Cemetery, Ky Hwy 196, Nancy, KY 42501.
Pallbearers will be Wendell Minton, Jeff Minton, David McQueary, Dalton McQueary, Fred Foster and Chris Carmichael.
