
Emil attended Chaminade High School in Dayton, Ohio, the American University of Beirut in Beirut, Lebanon, and the University of Dayton, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. He then served as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army during the Eisenhower administration. His entire career was spent at Mound Laboratories as a scientist who was instrumental in the research and development of the proper handling and containment of nuclear waste to meet then environmental standards. He also authored several studies that were published by The American Chemical Society. At the closing of the Mound facility in 1995, he accomplished a key milestone in the removal of excess nuclear materials from Mound Laboratories. He retired from Mound Laboratory after 35 years of dedicated service.
As a young man, Emil traveled to Lebanon frequently, the birthplace of his parents. While at the American University of Beirut, he met his future wife, Theresa. They married in1954, and returned to Dayton Ohio, where they raised a family of five.
Emil treasured his family and his church. He was a devout Catholic who served as a Eucharistic Minister for 20 years. He was an original member of both St. Charles Borromeo Church and St. Ignatius of Antioch Maronite Church. He was a kind, honorable man who was able to see positive qualities in everyone he met.
Emil leaves behind his devoted and loving wife Theresa of 59 years. He was the beloved father of Martin and his wife Nada of Washington Township, Ohio, Richard and his wife Sara of New Albany, Ohio, Diana and her husband Maroun Ayoub of Foxborough, Massachusetts, Edward and his wife Rebecca of Powell, Ohio, and Gregory and his wife Christine of Washington Township, Ohio, his brother Edmund, and his wife Ann of Washington Township, Ohio and was the loving “Jiddo” to fifteen grandchildren, Lauren, Mary Grace, Sophia, Emile, Caitlin, Gabriela, Ricky, Audrey, Anthony, Andre, Annabella, Andrew, Arlette, Kathryn, and Alexandre. He also leaves behind cousin Fred Mershad and his wife, Linda, other cousins, nieces, and nephews. We are grateful for his care, love and for the values and advice he has given us.
Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects on Friday, December 27 at 9:30 a.m., St. Charles Borromeo Church Atrium, 4500 Ackerman Blvd., Kettering, Ohio 45429.
