Emma Houston, age 98 of Kettering, took her final breath on 4 January 2021 due to complications from COVID. She left her loved ones at the sassy young age of 98. Born on a farm in Hamilton, Ohio, 26 June 1922, she started her life where the Sears catalog was used for something in addition to and other than reading.
During her younger years, her favorite dog Teddy brought her great joy but had to be given up, along with their farm, during the Great Depression. I hope Teddy was there to greet her, tail a-wagging. She never forgot him.
Mom was a strong…Tough Cookie, full of &*#@ and vinegar.
She lived through many trials and tribulations including WWII. She volunteered as a Nurse’s Aide with The American National Red Cross (Montgomery County Chapter-1943). She appreciated and valued everything she had. What a generation.
She was raised by the Golden Rule and her values live on today. She was a lover of all creatures great and small.
She was a loyal and devoted wife. She met her husband on a blind date, arranged by her best friend and her husband’s best friend. They loved and cherished each other for 52 years.
She is now with her loved ones, including, her 2 and 4-legged loved ones (Teddy, Tommy-Tut, Yeller Beller, Shadow, Smokey (aka MoMo), the neighbor’s cat that loved her more than his owners, Lucky, Pinkie, Seymour and Claymore, Chip and Dale, Canary, Fritzie, Cat-Nip, Tiny, Emmy-Lou, Wiggles, Tinkerbell, Lazarus aka Lazzy-Bear). And, don’t worry mom, I will give Willow, your grandcat, a big kiss and hug from you every day .
She is survived by her 2 daughters Jeannette Godsey and Joanne Houston, and her two grandcats, Willow and Mr. Mittens.
She is preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Curtis Houston, her son Gary Houston, and her brother Robert Dils. Graveside Service 1 pm Friday January 8, 2021 at Miami Valley Memory Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, Emma would have wanted any memorial donations to be made in her name to SICSA and/or any Non-Kill shelter.
A special thanks to all the nurses from the Sanctuary and Hospice for all they do taking care of our loved ones.
