Mr. Miller was my teacher at Lincoln and my boss at Old River.  What a wonderful man and a great example of how to live your life.  I often think of him and how he mentored me.  Sad to read of his passing this year.

Mr Miller was my fourth grade teacher at Lincoln in 1954.  He was an incredibly kind person and terrific teacher.  I loved walking to school with him and often wondered how he could carry such a heavy briefcase.  He always had time for questions. Other than Virgie Derrington, also of Lincoln, no teacher impacted me more.

My sincere condolences to the family, especially Mike.

I remember Everett from Old River where he spent many summers working with my Dad in the office. Now they are both in heaven reminiscing about all of their experiences together.

As I remember Mr. Miller this Easter weekend, I am reminded of two verses:

~Love your neighbor as yourself. There is no commandment greater than these."
~And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

Mr. Miller was the best neighbor imaginable. I was extremely blessed to live next to him and Mrs. Miller since 1987.   Our own 'Jimmy Stewart' right here on Edgar Ave!

I had the good fortune to have Everett and Dorothy Miller as my neighbors for over 35 years. They were the best neighbors in the world. Mr. Miller helped me when I was sick, took care of my pets when I traveled, took care of my yard and much more.
He had a big heart, enjoyed being with people, and wanted to help everyone. Whenever we went anywhere in Dayton, former students stopped him to thank him for being such a good teacher; former students and others stopped by his house to admire his garden and chat. He remembered his students and enjoyed talking to all.
   He loved fishing and was so excited to start fishing every year. He then fried his catch and shared dinner with friends.
I'm glad he was such a good gardener because he enjoyed it and he brought such joy to all who saw his hard work.
He also had fun going to garage sales. He often came home from a sale and showed me his treasures, ranging from antique irons and farm implements to balls of string and greeting cards. (He could be very practical!)
He was strong, resilient, wise, and as energetic as the Energizer Bunny. He sure kept busy, always bustling about, keeping his yard and house in order, keeping busy with his church and volunteer activities. He walked blocks delivering neighborhood association newsletters. He volunteered over 20 years at Miami Valley Hospital in the printing/mail department, then made Buckeyes for their fundraiser..He also volunteered at the Life 
Enrichment Center for years in the food pantry, even delivering food to those who couldn't get there. He climbed ladders to paint into his late 80's, and mowed yards and shoveled snow into his 90's. He shared so much: his time, his wisdom, his plants and tomatoes from his garden.

So many will miss him, but he left such a legacy of caring, doing, and love that many will always remember him for his wonderful spirit and commitment  to those around him.

Mr. Miller was the best teacher in the world and he loved his students.  He was supportive, encouraging, we could talk to him about anything.  He guided us in the right direction, let us be who we were, and I learned so much from him.  Deepest sympathy to his family.

Mr Miller was my 4th grade teacher at Lincoln School in 1972.  Even though he was extremely neat and fussy, he was one of the greatest teachers I ever had.  He took the time to attend to the needs of every student, making sure we understood the material.   He also taught us manners, neatness and self respect.   I will always remember him walking to school, wearing his suits, vests and lace up shoes.  He was one of the nicest, kindest people I ever met.  I wish more people would follow his example.

Mr. Miller was my 4th grade teacher, he was one of the best, can remember him walking back and forth to school, carrying his big satchel full of books and papers and always, always, with a smile on his face.  He was a man that his family should be very proud of, I'm glad to say that I'm proud to have had him as a teacher.

Everett was the most dedicated man I have ever known. We met when Everett started volunteering in the mail room at Miami valley Hospital. We had many conversations and they were always uplifting. He loved his family. We spoke often about his grandchildren and he was so proud of them. We sometimes compared stories of growing up in Ky and me in Tenn. and found we had a lot in common. I count Everett as a wonderful friend and will miss him.

May God bless Mr. Miller's family during their time of sorrow, but also a time of peace in knowing that surely he was welcomed with open arms as he approached Heaven's gates.  Mr. Miller was the salt of the earth.  Certainly, he was one of the best teachers at Lincoln Elementary if not all the world.  He truly wanted all his students to succeed and he gave 200% to assure that.  How I wish I took the time to have gone back to say hello and to thank him for his professionalism and kindness. I fondly remember him letting me practice my long division on the big chalk board and greeting us happily during the summer at Old River. This Bible verse comes to mind when thinking of our treasured Mr. Miller, "Let brotherly love continue.  Be not forgetful to entertain strangers; for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."  --Hebrews 13:1-2

By far one of the best teachers Lincoln school ever had.  A great guy who was fair, straight forward and determined to teach.  He lived down the street from us on Edgar Ave, many times I went by and he was working hard on his beautiful garden.  Luckily I got to see him a few years ago by accident.  He was still the same Mr. Miller.  Thanks Mr. Miller, you were a positive influence on me and my future.

I an an English teacher in Japan now, I'm 65 now. I hope that I took some of his qualities and am able to apply them to my teaching here...what a wonderful nice guy and a terrific teacher...so calm and patient with all us students...he lived down the street from me on Edgar...remember seeing him walking to school everyday with us kids from the neighborhood...how the world has changed...and maybe not for the better in schools now...my thoughts and prayers for his family....Jack Reed (Osaka, Japan)

Mr. Miller was a great teacher and a wonderful neighbor.  I lived next door to the church on Edgar Avenue and remember his dedication to the maintenance the building and lawn. My sympathy to his family in his passing.

mr, miller was , the true meaning of teacher, he tutored kids in their homes, took me and another class mate to honor roll dinner , was good and kind, I think we all gave back , if not, to him, but in lessons learned from him, thanks for the memories mr, miller, job and calling well done,,patti weatherly jones

Mr. Miller was my 4th grade teacher, I have fond memories of Lincoln school, and out of the many teachers some of my fondest memories include Lincoln School, and Mr. Miller. Growing up, I can remember thinking sometimes that Mr. Miller was "strict", now that some 40 odd years have past, I realize he was one of the teachers, that really was there, not for the paycheck, but to help kids learn, the kind of teacher that makes a different! He did just that! I smile remembering the twinkle in his eyes, when he knew you "got it". He made such a difference not only in my life, but so many other students! My sincere condolences to the family for your loss of such a special man. RIP Mr Miller, and if I never said it way back then.........Thank you!

What a wonderful teacher he was and an amazing man also.  I am 68 yrs old and now live in Florida but I remember him teaching me at Lincoln and I have never thought of my school days there without thinking of him.  I wish the teachers of today had the gift that he had for all his students.

 Mr. Miller was a favorite teacher of mine from Lincoln Elementary circa(1975-76). He lived in our neighborhood and was a very kind person. Thoughts and Prayers to his family. R.I.P Mr. Miller. Until we meet again! Sincerely, ~Lori Hardigree~

He was such a good man, my life was better for having known him. A great kind teacher.

Although I am now 71yrs., I remember Everett from Old River Park. As a very young man, I worked the hamburger stand next to the miniature golf course which Everett managed. He was always helpful to me and I looked up to him.

Everett was a dear friend.  He told many wonderful stories of his life such as fishing at NCR. He was a friend and leader at church.

Mr. Miller was our much respected and loved fourth grade teacher.  He made each student feel important, capable, and responsible.  Those of us who grew up in the neighborhood knew we could always stop by and say hi as he cleaned fish or mowed the grass.  I remember him also as an active member at First UCC. Although more than fifty years have passed, Mr. Miller remains a model for the kind of teacher and person I wanted to be.   My sympathies to his family.  Weslyn (Drapp) MIller
