Floyd Eugene Romesberg

Romesberg: Born January 31, 1927 at the homestead of the late Ephraim and Maim(Swearinger) Romesberg. The homestead was located between Garrett and Rockwood, PA. After graduating from Rockwood High School, Floyd Romesberg was the first of his family to go on to college, graduating from Penn State with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering. He received his M.S. degree at Bucknell and his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Cincinnati in 1953. He was employed by The Dow Chemical Company in Midland, Michigan and transferred to their Granville, Ohio facility in 1975. While working for Dow, he was involved in industrial research, conducting process development and product improvement of fabricated plastic products. He joined "Toastmasters International" for self-improvement in both speech and writing. He was active in this group for eight years. After retiring from Dow in 1986, he worked for several companies, doing research and consulting. He retired from the chemical industry at the age of 77 to his farm in St. Louisville, Ohio. He was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed his retirement with his wife Shirley. For a number of years their retirement consisted of running Floyd’s Berry Farm. They gardened extensively, both blueberries and vegetables, and started a maple syrup business. Later retirement located them to Centerville, Ohio.

Survivors include his wife Shirley of Centerville, Ohio; his brother EJ of San Jose, CA; daughters Beverly Goudy of Columbus and Cynthia Romesberg of Granville; a son Floyd Eric Romesberg of La Jolla, CA: step-daughters Gretchen Ulbrichten of Seguin, TX, Jill Robinson of Centerville, OH, and Polly Barber of Springboro, OH; a step-son Pete Gauby of Gilbert AZ; 8 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren: and 4 great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Ave. Funeral services will follow beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Somerset County Memorial Park, Somerset, PA.
