George J. Hutchison, age 67, of Dayton, Ohio passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025 surrounded by his family. George was born Nov. 18, 1957 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary G. and William J. He is survived by his siblings William G. and Lynne B. (Scott W.) Wolford, nephew Garrett M. Hutchison and niece Katherine A. Wolford. George was a graduate of Fairmont West High School (1976) where he was first chair clarinet for several years as well as lead actor in several plays and musicals. George graduated from University of Cincinnati (1980) in theater, moved to New York City, and was involved with several off-broadway productions. While living in NYC, George was heavily involved in the art world buying and selling original Andrew Wyeth and Ethan Murrow works to his clients. George was a naturally talented artist, skilled in pencil sketching, charcoal, pen and ink, watercolor, and oil and acrylic paintings. His pencil sketches of Lincoln looked like original photographs. He was skilled as a character artist as well, and often portrayed works which displayed his droll sense of humor. During his life he produced hundreds of original pieces of artwork, which impressed not only his family and friends, but also other artists. His family looked forward to receiving original hand-made birthday cards, often complete with decorated envelopes. However, he was very humble as an artist, and often downplayed his talent. George moved back to Dayton in the mid-90s, received an associates degree from Sinclair Community College in machining and worked for Mar-Con Tool for several years. George took care of his parents in their final years and kept them mentally young with his infectious laughter. He was a lifelong learner and read the Dayton Daily News faithfully, and kept up with his family and the Greek community. We will miss his artistic creativity, his love of and exhaustive knowledge of old movies, his attention to detail, and the care and consideration he showed his parents, especially in their later years.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Greek Orthodox Philoptochos Society. A memorial service will be held this summer for friends and family. Condolences may be sent to www.tobiasfuneralhome.com
