

George Constantine Zonaras, 91 of Centerville, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2022. He was born in Dayton, Ohio, February 7, 1931, to the late Constantine and Stella Zonaras. He was also predeceased by his sister Harriet and brothers Tom and Frank as well as grandchildren Sara and Dylan Zonaras. George is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Catherine, their two sons, Jim (Kim) and Tom (Dawn), two grandchildren, Katie Parks (Matt) and Grant Zonaras, three great grandchildren Lily, Charlie and Henry Parks, numerous nieces and nephews as well as his wonderful sister-in-law Nikki Zonars. He was well loved and will be deeply missed.
George graduated from Fairview High School in 1949. He served in the Ohio National Guard and U. S. Army from 1951 – 1955. During his time in the Army, he was stationed overseas as a sergeant in the military police. After his time in the service, he attended Acme School of Design to train in the tool design industry. He worked for U.S. Design Service in Dayton and resided in Kettering until 1983, at which time he and Catherine moved to Carlsbad, California. There, he worked at the Turbomach Division of Solar Turbines, which became the Sundstrand Corporation, until retirement in 1997. In 2016, they returned to Ohio and resided in Centerville at Bethany Village. The last few years of his life were severely impacted by Alzheimer’s disease.
For many years, George was an active member of the Kettering Lions Club including serving as the club’s president. He enjoyed doing volunteer services in both Dayton and the San Diego area. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, going for walks at the beach and spending time with his family.
A visitation for George will be held Thursday, November 3, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Calvary Cemetery Chapel, 1625 Calvary Drive, Dayton, Ohio 45409, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
