Georgia was born to George and Francis Howard on October 22, 1932, in Fort Thomas, Kentucky. She met her husband Elmer “Moe” at Moonlite Gardens, Coney Island, where he introduced himself as baseball great Ted Williams. When he picked her up for their first date, she didn’t know his real name. Despite his shenanigans, they were married in 1954 and raised three adopted children, Timothy (Linda), David (Lisa) and Judy (Michael Scholle). Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer (d. 2005), and her son David (d. 2012). She is survived by her two brothers, Charles and William, her son Tim, and daughter Judy. Georgia had 8 grandchildren: Sarah, Patrick, Rachael, Scott, Emily, Adam, Christine, and Anna, as well as two step-grandchildren, Kelsey and Kyle. She was also blessed with 10 great grandchildren.
Georgia was employed by the Centerville School District for 27 years as a teachers’ aid and a secretary at the Board of Education. After building their home on Chipplegate Drive, they became closest of friends with their new neighbors the Fowlers and the Cases. She and Tina met daily for coffee while their children played nearby. She maintained an impeccably clean, well organized household, and a beautiful property with gardens. Her family enjoyed her wonderful cooking. Georgia loved to sew, crochet, cross stitch, garden, and travel. She enjoyed her many trips to Texas to visit with family, and she and Moe were even rattled by the 1989 San Francisco earthquake while vacationing with friends. More than anything, Georgia loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She always let them know how much she loved them.
Georgia’s life will be celebrated on Thursday, December 29, when family will receive friends at Tobias Funeral Home from 10am until noon, followed by a 1pm mass of Christian Burial at Incarnation Church in Centerville. She will be buried at Centerville Cemetery on Maple Avenue.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Diabetes Foundation would be appreciated.
