Our dear mother, Hazel DeHaven-Blackburn, 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 21, 2018. Born Hazel Smith, in Payton, KY, on April 19, 1932, to Charlie and Maggie Smith (nee Collinsworth), she was one of seven children raised primarily around Dehart, KY. As the daughter of a farmer, coal miner, and military veteran, she grew up to be a strong, independent, hard-working woman of deep faith, and a beautiful soul. She loved to cook and be with her family and friends. In 1947, she married Asa Denzil DeHaven (deceased, 1991) and moved to Dayton, Ohio, where she was a factory worker and retiree from General Motors, Inland Division. In 2000, she married George Blackburn (deceased, 2009). Mother of Roger DeHaven and Robert Keith DeHaven. Grandmother of Matthew R. DeHaven and Ryan R. Tibbs. Great-grandmother of Maximilian R. DeHaven, Benjamin R. DeHaven, Eyler R. Tibbs and Blake R. Tibbs. She was also the step-mother of Steve Blackburn (deceased, 2015), Jeff Blackburn and Benny Blackburn of Dayton, OH. Her mother, father and husbands as well as her sister Ruby May and brothers Edsel Smith and Stanley Smith all proceeded her in death. She is survived by her sons and their wives Tarri and Tammy, respectively, her grandchildren and their wives Marcia and Michelle, respectively, her great-grandchildren, sister Joyce Bingham and brothers Arnold Smith and Virgil Smith as well as her beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Middletown, OH, and Order of the Eastern Star. Visitation will be Friday, September 28, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Ave. Funeral services will follow immediately beginning at 6:30 p.m. Graveside service will be Saturday, September 29, at 11:00 a.m. at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens in Tipp City, OH.
