Helen K. Smith

Smith, Helen K., age 84 of Kettering, OH, passed away on Saturday August 9, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Ambrose E. Smith, her parents, and her sister, Janet Kennedy. She is survived by her children Barbara Smith (Dave), Paul Smith (Ladonna), and Linda Boyd (Chuck); grandchildren Melissa Jacobson (Craig), Laura Patrick (Chris), and David Smith; one great grandson, Erik Jacobson; and close friends Charles and Cathy Caldwell. Helen was born and raised in Syracuse, New York, and moved to Ohio after her marriage to Amby. She was a self-described "people person", and loved interacting with her wide circle of friends and acquaintances. She was a volunteer at Kettering Medical Center, where she gave more than 30,000 hours over the course of about 40 years. She was a dedicated member of Shroyer Road Baptist Church. She was active for many years in Kettering Sister Cities, hosting, travelling, and helping organize events. She loved Scottish country dancing, participating locally and during her travels. Family members would like to thank the staff and residents of Grand Court for providing a cheerful home for Helen and truly caring about her. A memorial service to celebrate Helen's life will be held at Shroyer Road Baptist Church on Saturday, September 6, 2014. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. with the service following at 11:30 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Kettering Medical Center Foundation in lieu of flowers.Arrangements under the direction of Tobias Funeral Home, Dayton, OH.
