

Jean Foltz Kuhn, 86, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Bethany Village in Centerville, Ohio. Jean was born June 21, 1928 in Shenandoah, Virginia to James L. Foltz and Jerutha Lee Kite Foltz.
After completing high school in Shenandoah, Jean attended Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, NC, and obtained a degree in education. There she met Alvin Kuhn of Newton, NC, and after she graduated, they began a wonderful marriage of nearly 64 years.
Jean joined Al at the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia, PA, where she worked at the Lutheran Publication House. She then was his partner in ministry over the years at parishes in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Virginia. Along the way, Jean held support positions in local middle schools, while remaining active in church and social ministry activities.
In 1990, Jean and Al retired to Williamsburg, VA where they were active members of St. Stephen Lutheran Church.
Guided by her faith, Jean lived her life in service to others. Her kindness extended to family, friends, and those she witnessed in need. Love, conviction, zeal and playfulness were her chosen tools. Gardening, music, and festive holiday gatherings brought her joy, which she eagerly shared with all around her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Virginia Foltz (Marshall) Mauney. She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Kuhn (Andrew Yale) of Ithaca, NY, and Pamela (Dean) Eklund of Beavercreek, OH and grandchildren Jesse (Kristen) Pappas, Jacob Yale, Elisabeth Eklund and Emily (Eric) Mayhew.
A memorial service will be held December 20th at 1:00 p.m. at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, 612 Jamestown Road, Williamsburg, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Alzheimer’s Association, Hospice of Dayton or the Social Ministry programs at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Williamsburg, VA.
