

Joan Keiter Finlay Smith – God wiped her tears and took her home on June 10, 2024. She was born on December 2, 1928 in Xenia to Donald Robertson Duff Finlay and Ruth Alice Fudge Finlay, both since deceased. She married her beloved husband, James Harold Smith in December of 1947 and they celebrated 53 years together before he passed away in 2000. Her sister Catherine Finlay Dewine, and two young sons, Steven Kent 18 and Michael Keith 23 also preceded her in death.
She was the cherished mother of Marsha Luneke (Tom), Melissa Myers (Brian), and Cynthia Hess (Andrew), and a devoted grandmother to six grandchildren: Bobby Hunter (Monique), Mindie Light (Josh), Marcie Harrison (Rob), Lisa Hunter, Michael Hess, and Anthony Hess (Justina). Her great-grandchildren: Robert, Cheyenne, Melissa, Keith, Cassidy, Abrielle, Caeden, McKynnah, Jesse, Logan, Jetlin and followed by her great-great-grandchildren: R J, Kam, Zoe and Piper. She also leaves many loving nieces and nephews.
Joan was a charter member of Kirkmont Presbyterian Church in Beavercreek. In her younger years, she served as a Sunday School teacher and shepherd. She belonged to the DESC Officers’ Wives Club. There she participated in fundraising events for several various charities, made many friends and just “had fun”.
There will be a visitation, Friday, June 14, 2024 at Kirkmont Presbyterian Church, 3377 Shakertown Road, Beavercreek, Ohio 45434 starting at 10:00 am, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am with Pastor Dan Borgelt presiding. Burial will follow in Valley View Memorial Gardens, Xenia. Arrangements entrusted to Tobias Funeral Home, Beavercreek.
