

HAUFE, John Cavedon, Sr., age 94 of Kettering, Ohio died October 3, 2012. He was born in New York City to Otto and Ines (Cavedon) Haufe and spent his childhood in Woonsocket, RI. John enjoyed raising and racing pigeons in his youth. After graduating from LaSalle Academy in Providence, RI, he earned a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1940. John lettered in track and basketball there. Before arriving in Dayton, he worked briefly for Curtis Wright Propeller in Indianapolis. In 1942 John began his career with Frigidaire. He retired as the Facilities Manager of the Moraine plant in 1980. John was a long time member of St. Albert the Great Parish, where he helped to organize the athletic programs during the late 1950’s & early 1960’s. He was a member of the Engineers Club and the TOM club. He was an original member of Sugar Valley Country Club, active in senior golf. John valued the friends he made through the golf league, many of whom also joined him in the “Beanie Bowlers” senior group, which he co-founded. In his retirement, John also enjoyed woodworking, stamp collecting and travel. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 61 years, Rosemary (Kamp) Haufe, his sisters, Alice Bliss and Nonette Cosgrove and his brother, Joe. John is survived by his sons, John and Mark of Kettering, Michael (Marilyn) of Columbus, his grandsons, William and Thomas of Columbus. He is also survived by his brother, Thomas (Joan) Haufe of Portsmouth, RI. The family will receive friends at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-FAR HILLS CHAPEL, 5471 Far Hills Ave. at Rahn Road, Sunday, October 7, 2012 from 3 pm to 5 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church (3033 Far Hills Ave.) on Monday, October 8, 2012 at 12 noon. Interment at Calvary Cemetery will follow the ceremony.
