John Stephen Rains

John "Johnny" Stephen Rains, age 74, of New Lebanon, born June 30, 1947 in Middlesboro, Kentucky. Passed peacefully at home surrounded by his beloved family on October 5 2021 after a long courageous fight with cancer. John was a Stebbins High School graduate, a high school gymnast specializing in parallel bars and horse. John was a loving father/grandfather,brother and uncle. John spent his free time listening to the blues and playing guitar. He was an avid fisherman, bird watcher and he loved to read.John spent his career as a master plumber and Hvac technician. John was a long standing member of Knights Inn of Dayton Incorp. Preceded in death by his father Milton Ewing Rains. He leaves to cherish his memory- mother Charity L Cramer of Dayton, his sister Shirley Allen-Casstevens, and brother Michael (Carolyn)Rains of Greer, South Carolina.. Loving daughter Lindsay(Cory) Poppaw, step-son Joshua Mescher and grandchildren Nevaeh, Naomi, And Razale Poppaw . Ex wife and close friend Connie Rains, Special friends Mark Sopczak, Cassondra Conley and Mary McDermott. Numerous nieces and nephews. Special thank you to hospice of Dayton nurses Nikki, Dany & Cassie.
