George was a veteran of the United States Navy. He served as a Navy Reservist and in the 1st Anti-Tank Battalion, 1st Marine Division in Vietnam as a Corpsman. During his service, George was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Star.
Born in Mineola, NY, George spent most of his childhood in Lynchburg, Virginia. After achieving the rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America while still in school, he graduated from E.C Glass High School in 1964. Following his military service, George traveled and settled in many different places across the U.S. including Yuma, Arizona; San Francisco, California; and Grants Pass, Oregon. He was a skilled mechanic, a gourmet cook, a home builder, a musician, and a Renaissance man. He built beautiful bicycles and rode them across the trails of Dayton. George loved music, attending concerts, riding his motorcycles, spending time with friends, driving his pickup truck, cooking, enjoying a good meal, drinking a glass of wine, and tending the flowers and vegetables in his garden.
In keeping with George’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. The family would like to thank Hospice of Dayton for their care and compassion during George’s illness. If you were lucky enough to know George, you were lucky enough.
