Kerry was a true prankster always trying to make you laugh. He spent most of his working career with Ohio Bell for 40 years.
After leaving the Navy in 1968, he married and started a family. He was driven to providing a comfortable life for his family.
He enjoyed competition. Those who heard his smack talk while playing softball, basketball & Ping-Pong were graced with a true competitor that had some trick up his sleeve. Other hobbies included lapidary, travel, reading, and model trains.
In 1993, Kerry risked his own safety to save the life of a 3-year-old girl who had set fire to her clothing. He was recognized for his heroism with many awards, and the Mayor of Dayton declared a “Kerry Berkey Day” in the city. He was very modest and rarely talked about this brave act.
Surviving Kerry, Wife of 17 years Linda Green, Daughters Kami Berkey (Steve Shaw), Carrie Berkey, and son Mark Lurz. Grandchildren Lucy, Ben, Bridget, Henry, & Josie. Brothers Kenny Berkey (Coleen), Kim Berkey (Becky), sisters Kathi Petrey, Karen Logan, and many nieces and nephews.
