

Larry Joseph Wells of Springboro, Ohio, passed away at St. Leonard’s Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation, in Centerville, Ohio. Larry was born in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Joseph and Jane (Murnane) Wells. Larry is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Ashley Brown, his “Jingle Bells Girl,” his parents Joseph and Jane Wells, his in-laws, Thurman and Terry Burris, brother-in-law Rick Carpenter and his dear friend, John Lorenz.
Larry leaves behind the love of his life, his devoted wife, Colleen (Burris) Wells, son Larry R. Wells (Lisa Clark), daughter Nicole Brown (Ken), and granddaughter Brittany Weger (Tristan), his brother Mark Wells (Joni), sisters Sharon Carlson (John), Ginny Graf (Carl), Roxanne Westfall and Connie Carpenter, many cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, dear extended family Janis, Scott Cross and sons, Mike Brennan and Bob Fogarty and so many friends over the years. His children and granddaughters were the light of his life and his most proud achievement in life.
Larry was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the 1st Air Cavalry, a drill sergeant at Ft. Knox, KY, and was medically retired as a multi-line insurance agent at Western Southern Life Insurance with an LUTC-F designation. Larry was awarded a Bronze Star with a “V” device for valor, multiple Air Medals, purple heart, etc. Larry was inducted into the Ohio Military Hall of Fame in 2005. He was a Life Member of the VFW and a member of the Worthington, OH Paul W. Tibbets Post 2398.
Larry was a devoted husband, father and PaPa. While waiting for his heart transplant 29 years ago at the Cleveland Clinic his father and brother Mark visited him almost every week for 11 weeks. Nicole and Ken came every weekend from Lexington, KY. Our son came when able to as he lived in Connecticut and many other family and friends.
Larry was always a very generous man and even as a young boy buying gifts for his little sisters with his paper route money. Whenever his Mom needed milk and bread, he would tell her, “No sweat” and ride his bike to the store. Larry never knew a stranger and was beloved by many friends including high school classmates. He always looked forward to attending class reunions.
There will be a memorial service Friday, February 9, 2024, at St. Henry Church, 6696 Springboro Pike, Dayton, OH starting at 11 a.m. Larry will be interred following services at Calvary Cemetery, Dayton, OH and a luncheon will follow at the St. Henry Church Recreation Hall. Contributions in memory of Larry may be made to: Wounded Warriors, Tunnel to Towers, the Gary Sinise Foundation or the VFW.
