Lawrence "Larry" Joseph Janning

JANNING, Lawrence J. “Larry” age 65 of Dayton, passed away peacefully amongst loved ones Sunday afternoon, August 27th. Larry was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Donna (Brinkman); Daughters and spouses, Lauren and Steve Maltarich, Lindsey and Chris McCaslin and Kara and Jerrad Horn; 7 grandchildren (Evan, Graham, Luke, Norah, Natalie, Willow and Davis); mother, Dolores Janning; brother and sister-in-law Tom and Diane Janning; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy and Larry Weldon, Janet and John Owens, Theresa and Kurt Schnabel and Jackie Janning-Lask and Joe Lask; and numerous friends. He is preceded in death by his brother, Richard Janning, and father, John Janning.

Larry was a 1975 graduate of Beavercreek High School and earned his BS degree from Wright State University in 1979. He worked in Wright Patt’s Foreign Technology division before his 25 year career at Science Application International Corporation, “SAIC”. He went on to be the Director for Business Development at Wright State Research Institution, was one of the Founding Partners of IonVentus, and served as Executive Vice President and then President of DRA before retiring in 2018.

Larry loved his family, friends, fishing, working in the yard and at “the lake”. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his genuine kindness, generosity, good times as the boat captain, and his “Uncle Larry jokes”.

A Funeral Mass will be held in Larry's honor at 11am, Friday, September 8, 2023 at Ascension Catholic Church, 2025 Woodman Dr., Kettering, OH. Visitation from 9-11am at the church prior to the service. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.tobiasfuneralhome.com.
