Mary Rose Kelly, age 92, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 15, 2020. The eldest of six children, Mary Rose was born on June 22, 1928 in Donaghmore, Northern Ireland to the late Bridgid and John McGee. Mary Rose was preceded in death by her loving husband John and son Paul. Also preceding her were sister Anna McQuaid and brothers John and Jim McGee.
Mary Rose graduated Queens University in Belfast with a nursing degree. It was with this degree that she made the courageous decision to leave her home in Northern Ireland and move to Cincinnati, where she worked at Jewish Hospital. This is where she met and married John Kelly on December 30, 1958. They were happily married for 55 years.
Mary Rose was known by her dedication to her Catholic faith and to serving others. As a member of St. Luke Catholic parish in Beavercreek since the early 1970s, she was very active as a volunteer in many areas of both the parish and school. She continued to be part of a weekly prayer group until recently. Additionally, Mary Rose was a longtime volunteer at the Fisher House on Wright Patterson Air Force Base (a facility for military families who are receiving medical treatment on base).
She will be remembered for her love of her family and friends and her patience for all. Mary Rose was an outgoing person who loved nothing better than a visit with family members or one of her many friends. She loved to laugh and tell stories and hear about whatever you wanted to discuss. Visiting with Mary Rose was to be remembered as a special time indeed. She adored her six grandchildren Erin, Sean, Paul, Madeline, John, and Devin who in turn loved and adored her. Additionally, she is survived by her siblings Patrick McGee and Margaret McGarrity, and her children Brita (Rosemary), Theresa, Maria (daughter-in-law), Tony, John (Debbie), and Pat (Peggy).
