

VANOVER, Melvin Gene, age 88, passed away Monday, October 19, 2015. He was born in Dayton, Ohio September 19, 1927 to William and Florence VanOver. Mel graduated from Patterson Co-op where he was a star athlete in track and cross country. He served in Germany in the Army during WWII. Married for 67 years to his devoted wife Patricia Allen and was a devoted father of three children. He worked at Inland for eight years, NCR for twenty-two, and taught night school at Patterson Co-op, owned Miami Valley Industrial Supply Co., and various part-time jobs. He was a terrific Santa, Pickpocket the Clown, a toastmaster, 32 degree Mason, member of the Scottish Rite and Antioch Shrine where he belonged to the bagpipe unit. He was also a member of the Elks, Eagles, VFW and American Legion. He played golf, bowled, played cards and loved all sports. Mel and Pat owned many boats and motor homes and loved traveling. They spent many years traveling to Las Vegas and their second home in Florida. They are fondly remembered for their Friday SWS nights. Preceded in death by his parents William and Florence(Lehmkulhe)VanOver, brother Dean, and his wife Patricia who passed away January 31, 2015. He is survived by his children Geraldine(Annette Berger), Pamela Moyer (Fran), and Melvin VanOver Jr. (Shirley), grandchildren Kenneth Moyer(Monti) and Kevin Moyer, great-grandchildren Morgan Moyer and Kyle Moyer. Memorial donations can be sent to the Shrine Hospital. The family wants to thank Trinity Community Nursing Home for all they did for Mel and Pat in their last years.
