It was an honor to work with, play with and associate with Mike Pierce...a great person.
He actually was responsible for helping me get my 1st promotion at General Motors many years ago by being a dedicated worker as he always was and a dedicated friend. 
Some of us also had the honor of playing with Mike on H.S. teams, American Legion Baseball, Travel Baseball and he 'Made' us better showing us how to play and practice harder, and win as a Team.
I still remember those summer nights playing basketball in the Pierce's barn...or the summer many of us worked at the local nursery between baseball games..ask Mick S or Tom N. Or Steve R.
We will all miss Mike but not our time and memories with him...we have just lost a truly great one!

Mike was a good friend and an exceptional athlete. He never made those of us with less athletic ability feel inferior, he made us better!

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I didn't see when or how but I'm very sad this had to happen to a great guy...i will always cherish our memories

just got back in town I have been playing ball in Chattanooga, I started to come back yesterday and miss the finals of our tournament but I thought of all of the games Mike and I have played together ( in the 100s) so I stayed played and won Mike would understand. Mike was much more than a friend to me give all my regards. He will truly be missed.

I am so sorry to learn of Mike's passing; my condolences to his friends and family, all. While he and I were not the closest of friends at MHS, still, I had an appreciation for Mike and the manner in which he conducted himself from day-to-day at school. As I played in the pep band at basketball games, I well remember Mike, that during pre-game warm-ups, he would stand at mid-court, and loft 2 handed shots towards the basket, and which would often go swish through the rim and net. I figured at the time, that this display was not only a crowd pleaser, but also an effort to intimidate the opposing team, which was also undergoing warm-ups at their end of the court. Anyway, fond memories from a trombone player sitting in the bleachers, and who admired his contribution to the basketball team on court. Thank you Mike; I trust that your contribution to your community at-large, through your life, was every bit as substantial as it was to our school. Thank you again.

Mike was one of the nicest guys in our class and a great athlete. Prayers to his family.

The class of 64 was filled with extraordinary people. Mike, as many others, fit that mold. He was always pleasant, friendly and polite. We have lost one of our best, but so it goes for all of us  we are all on the train of life and one never knows when our stop will arrive and we will step off.
 
The wonder of it is most of us knew Mike, some better than others. If we were fortunate enough to stand in his company, we were and are better for having done so.
 It is my joy that I knew so many classmates so well and I have enjoyed those memories throughout my life. It only came to me a year after graduation, during my two years in the U.S. Army. It was then I realized I might not return home so I took stock of all my school experiences and my association with so many classmates.
 It is there that I came to realize what wonderful people filled the class of 64. To this day, I have never forgotten those thoughts and the wonder of my association therein. Thanks to all of you, each one, for the gifts you gave me then and still do, as I recall those years gone by.

Hated to hear this news about Mike Pierce.  I knew him since first grade.  Cannot improve upon what Billy Ring said;  thoughts and prayers to the family.  It didn't matter if we saw him every day or not, we knew him.  And, yes, we are all better for having known him.

I'm so sorry to hear about Mike's passing.  Billy, you are so eloquent!  I remember Mike well.  He was a lot of fun and will  be missed by his family and friends.  Thank you Susan for keeping us updated.  Sharon Phillips Bakay

I admired Mike's spirit, his smile and his positive attitude as well as his athleticism.
