Blessed
Proverbs 31:10-12, 27,28
She is Precious – far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her….she will do him good and not evil all of the days of her life..she looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
Heaven has gained a special Angel. Norma Sue Hamilton (Potter) gained her wings on August 7, 2025. Surrounded by her husband of 66 years and her family. She was 82 years old. She preceded in passing by her Father, Need Potter Sr., her Mother Ellen Potter, a sister, Janice Lynn Trent, and a brother Vernon Combs. She also lost 2 precious grandchildren, Joshua Ginter, born to Debbie and Angelica Hamilton, born to Mark and Angela Hamilton.
Norma was born in Detroit, Michigan. She was raised in Barbourville, Ky. She attended Knox Central High School. When she was 16, she married the love of her life Jimmy B Hamilton on July 17,1959 at a friend’s house in Artemus. They left Kentucky that day to start their life in Dayton, Ohio.
Jimmy and Norma started their family soon after. Debra (Debbie) was born in 1960, Jimmy in 1964 and Mark in 1967. She stayed at home and raised their children until Mark started school and her work career started at Monarch Marking. She worked there for 28 years and formed many friendships there that are very dear to her heart.
For all that knew Norma, knew her love for God and her church, Calvary Open Bible. She was a very faithful part of her church since 1968. She and her children were baptized in the church. Her roles at that church changed over the years. She would do anything that she felt God needed her for her to do whether it was to be a Sunday School teacher, a Door greeter, or make a pot of food. She visited shut in’s, she wrote notes to members checking on them. The prayer group chain kept her in the loop when she could not do much else, because she stopped everything and prayed for whomever needed that instant prayer. That never stopped up to her passing. Her last days on Earth was helping with the Vacation Bible School taking her Granddaughter Isla with her. Anyone that ever crossed her path knew how she loved her Lord and Saviour and she knew exactly where she was going when her time ended.
Norma loved Flowers and she had a green thumb for them. She found joy in the colorful blooms and the fact that they brought her peace. She loved the outdoors and all of the beautiful things that came with it. Butterflies and hummingbirds brought her joy. Each morning started out with her husband sitting in her reclining drinking their morning coffee looking out at her flowers and her hummingbird feeder, watching what God made, beauty.
She had so many friendships in her life that she had for over 40+ years. Some were shopping friends, some were luncheon friends. It didn’t matter to her what they got to do, as long as they got to see each other. Over the years her friends and her have made many memories that will never go away in their hearts. She adored them all, and they knew it.
She never met a stranger. She never said anything ill of anyone. Saw the good in everyone. Always prayed for everyone, sometimes in person, sometimes in private. Always had a smile on her face, her arms were always ready to give a hug. The words “I love you” came out of her mouth to so many because she did love everyone, and everyone loved her.
Norma leaves behind on this Earth, her husband of 66 years Jimmy Hamilton. Her children, Debbie (Alan) Ruttencutter, Jimmy (Emily in heaven) Hamilton, Mark (Angela) Hamilton. Her grandchildren Joshua Ginter (in heaven), Miranda Monday, Jacob Ginter, Bradley Hamilton, Nathan Hamilton, Angelica Hamilton (in heaven), Justin Hamilton, Ireland Hamilton, Isabella Hamilton, Isla Hamilton. Several great grandchildren.
Siblings, Lenvil (Ellen) Callebs, Leon (Shirley) Potter, Need Potter Jr. She has left behind several very dear and close to her heart nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She will truly be missed in our lives. There will be a void. But all of her family and friends know exactly where she is, she is with the Lord, just where she wanted to be eventually.
