I just looked Jake up and found out he passed. His name just popped in my head all the sudden. Its been awhile since he passed, but this just goes to show that Jake is remembered. I washed dishes at the KVI for several years when I was a kid. I remember Maggie, Dara, MiMi, Wanda, and PJ. That's all that comes to mind.  I liked working at the KVI but there came a time when Dad told me to find work that paid more. Hah. Dad wanted me to move out. And minimum wage wouldn't make that happen. Well it looks like Jakie had a life well lived, and that makes me smile.  He was a good guy. There was a time when a stranger came to the KVI and told Jake he used to work there and never got his last check. Jake gave him some money, and then told me about it as he puzzled it in his head. Jake didnt remember him but said the guy must have been telling the truth to go to the trouble of coming to the restaurant. It was closed early Sunday when I was cleaning the place up. I never forgot Jakes trusting way, even though I thought the guy probably pulled a con. I hope everybody else is doing as well. Steve Terhune

To all the dear Schumachers who have been such good friends of my family for many many years, we will so miss Jake and all the laughs and smiles that he and my father had over so many lunches at Bob Evans.  When Dad lost his ability to golf it could have crushed his world but Jake was such a great companion.  Dad loved their frequent visits and valued their friendship. Jake and Maggie are the best neighbors my parents ever had.  I don't live in Ohio any longer, but I have always been there at Christmas when Jake would show up with all of the goodies Maggie had baked. My Dad loved playing golf with him! I just saw him carrying his little dog when I visited Wilma in March. I didn't know him well, but he was always so sweet on the few occasions I saw him. I will miss seeing him "walking" the dog. Jake was a good man and always a pleasure to talk with. He always loved talking about his golf games that he had played and he always asked me how things were going at the news paper. He will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
