

Paul J. Toerner, age 85, of Kettering, Ohio, passed away Monday, August 12, 2013 at Hospice of Dayton after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born in Hamilton, Ohio, on July 7, 1928, to Joseph and Magdeline (Buckner) Toerner, who preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Ellen (Tegge) Toerner; six children, Jim (Debbie) Toerner of Beavercreek, Tony (Teresa) Toerner of Kettering, Rose (Rick) Madura of Kettering, Joe (Rob) Toerner of Washington, D.C., Dave (Mary) Toerner of Cincinnati, George (Laura) Toerner of Chicago; six grandchildren, Mandy, Nick, Mike, Mark, John, Greta and four great-grandchildren, Clyde, Claire, Audrey and Sam; two sisters, Ann Toerner-Rich and Kathy (John) Kennedy and one brother, Tom (Mary) Toerner; three sisters-in-law, Sara Meyer, Marguerite Tegge and Elaine Tegge. He was a graduate of Hamilton Catholic High School and Xavier University. Paul retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base as a Civilian Personnel Specialist. Paul proudly served in the Army during the Korean War. He was a member of The Church of The Holy Angels Catholic Church. Paul and Mary Ellen enjoyed going to VFW Post 9927 of which Paul was a lifetime member. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 598. They also enjoyed playing the ukuleles with the Ukulelians, a group of senior citizens who played gigs at various venues. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2013, at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Ave., Centerville, Ohio. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, August 16, 2013 at The Church of the Holy Angels, 1322 Brown St., Dayton, Ohio, 45409 at 10 a.m.; Rev. Daniel Meyer officiating.
