

MADOLE, Raymond Conry, age 97 of Kettering, died on Monday, September 19, 2016. He is survived by his wife Helen, children Scott Madole of Houston, Texas, Vickie Hollo of Vandalia, Ohio, and Joan Pelton of Longwood, Florida, daughter-in-law Kathy Madole, sister-in-law Mary Ruth Madole, eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his brother John Madole, sister Grace McPherson Gurkin, brother-in-law Wiley McPherson, sister-in-law, Faith Aue, brother-in-law Oscar Aue, son-in-law Edward Hollo, son-in-law Charles Pelton, and grandson Nicholas Pelton. Ray was born and raised in Evanston, Illinois as the youngest of three children to John and Ellen Madole. He attended Northwestern University and graduated with a degree in Business Administration. During WWII, Ray was an officer in the Navy rising to the rank of Commander. At the start of the war, Ray was assigned to the oil tanker Hagood for two convoys to Great Britain. On the second convoy his ship was sent on to London becoming the first U.S. oil tanker to enter London during the war. Later in the war, Ray was reassigned to the Pacific Theater as Chief Operations Officer for a flotilla of LCS ships supporting the landings at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. For this, he received the Bronze Star. Ray worked in the Group and Pension Division of Aetna Insurance Company for 40 years. He was Manager of the company's Dayton office and also served as President of the Dayton Chapter of the Chartered Life Underwriters (CLU) organization. He was a member of Fairmont Presbyterian Church and has lived in his current home in Kettering for over 50 years. Ray enjoyed golf, bowling, bridge and visits with family and friends. The love of his life was his wife, Helen, to whom he was married for 69 years. He was a generous and loving husband, father, and grandparent to his family. He will be greatly missed.
