Born in Cincinnati, as a young man Richard moved to Dayton with his father and mother, he attended Chaminade High school and graduated in 1953. He began work as a volunteer fireman for Beavercreek, then only a township, and in a short time became a fireman. As his father was building a new home in Beavercreek Richard attended the Dayton Police Academy and graduated there to become the first full time police officer for Beavercreek Township. During those years of public service, which he described as one of his favorite times in life, he met the woman who would become his wife of 48 years, Janet.
Married in 1961, Richard and Janet purchased their home in Beavercreek and began to raise their family. Richard adopted Janet's 5 year old son Stephen and then welcomed his daughter Deborah in their first year of marriage. In 1964 Richard made a decision to leave full time status with the police department to take a position at General Motors Inland plant in Vandalia. He was in charge of security at that plant. Richard continued to be active in the fire and police departments of Beavercreek responding to local emergencies as he could as a volunteer.
In 1968, Richard and Janet welcomed another child, Michael, and shortly afterwards moved to a new home, closer to the schools that all 3 children would attend. Richard continued working and “Generous Motors” as he would affectionately call them and became involved in the Beavercreek community, he served as president of the Jaycees for a period of time and was a member of the Sertoma Club, which kept him involved in many community events.
Richard retired from GM in 1991 and then his time was spent with family. He kept himself busy running deliveries for the Dayton Women's Bowling Association, which Janet was deeply involved in, and the social aspect of that kept Richard in his element, as he was a man that didn't know a stranger.
As life progressed Richard and Janet found themselves in a small spot on Lake St. Mary’s, to spend quality time with themselves and their children. Those years grew into many stories that will be carried on for generations.
Richard was excited to welcome grandchildren and great grandchildren into his life, and after the passing of his wife they became a giant portion of his happiness.
Richard was a provider, a gentle man, a kind man, a man who would do anything for anyone and a man that loved his family and friends. He will be missed.
Richard is preceded in death by his father and mother, Alphonse and Leona, siblings Camilla, Herbert and Joseph, daughter in law Deborah, and granddaughter Lauren. Richard now joins his wife of 48 years Janet on the very day she passed 13 years prior.
Richard is remembered by family and friends, his daughter, Deborah Roark (Tim), his sons, Michael (Tammy) and Stephen. Grandchildren Seana Lambdin (Cory), Allison Schroeder, Connor Crum, Kimberly Ditty (Kyle) and Chris Young (Amanda).
