Rick was born June 23, 1951, in Aurora, Illinois to the late Charles and Dorothy (Maas) Strahota. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers Steve and Lee, and brother-in-law John Herrel. Rick was a graduate of Sylvania (Ohio) High School and Sinclair Community College, and was a Technical Support Manager at Lexis Nexis in Dayton for 20 years. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Mary Kay, son Mark (Megan), grandchildren Corinne and Stephen, brothers Larry and Robert, and sisters Lynne and Claire.
Rick will be fondly remembered by family and friends as our favorite social director. He enjoyed sharing laughs while entertaining family at his home on the holidays and in between. He was our “rock” as well – always able and willing to lend a hand in times of need. He was a true gem; a guy who could both host a great dinner party and could be relied upon for a ride to the airport. He appreciated the rewards of a job well done, but could also play on the floor with his grandchildren for hours. He will be sorely missed.
A memorial visitation with Rick’s family will be held Sunday, November 6, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Tobias Funeral Home, 5471 Far Hills Avenue in Dayton, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM. If desired, donations may be made in Rick’s memory to the Arbor Day Foundation or the Audubon Society, in honor of his appreciation for natural places and the great outdoors.
