
Hickey, Rita Ann, age 87, of Riverside passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born in Dayton on September 16, 1927, the daughter of John and Catherine (Duffy) Kernan, Sr., who preceded her in death. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Hickey, Sr., in 1997, her brother, Dr. Thomas E. Kernan and a sister, Mary Jo Deffet. Rita is survived by her 11 children, Cathryn (Thomas) Knipfer, of Kettering, Patricia E. (Tim Bruhn) Batdorf, of Dayton, Mary Ellen (Paul) Runk, of Defiance, OH, Susan E. (Robert) Peterman, of Huber Heights, Theresa (Todd) Penney, of Springboro, Robert E, (Loralynn) Hickey, Jr.,of Kettering, Timothy E. (Barbara) Hickey, of Columbus, Thomas L. Hickey, of Germantown, Christopher J. (Janine) Hickey, of Beavercreek, James M. (Patrice) Hickey, of Centerville, John A. Hickey, of Riverside; a sister, Patricia Davidson, of Ft. Worth, TX; a brother, John (Joanne) Kernan, Jr., of Centerville; 32 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and longtime friends. She was a proud graduate of Julienne High School and a member of St. Helen Catholic Church. Rita was a member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians and The Hithergreen Senior Center. She also enjoyed playing Bridge several times a week. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at St. Helen Catholic Church, 5100 Burkhardt Road with Father David Brinkmoeller, celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the mass on Saturday.
